IETF 104 in Prague: INTRIG Participation and Contributions

The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is the world’s premier Internet standards-making body. IETF participants represent an open international community of operators, vendors, network designers, researchers, and other interested technologists. For the 104th IETF meeting, held in Prague during March 23-29 (2019), our research group actively participated with the following contributions:

Within the Application-Layer Traffic Optimization Working Group (ALTO WG) meeting, Danny Alex Lachos Perez presented the draft “Multi-domain E2E Network Services”. This document offers an overview of standardization activities and research projects, including problem statement, behind building E2E services across different domains. Moreover, from a layered network model, it is proposed a potential ALTO extension related to E2E Network Service requirements representation based on the ETSI NFV MANO data model. Finally, another important objective of this document is to start a discussion into the ALTO WG and industrial players concerning potential new items and use cases that could motivate/justify an ALTO re-chartering. The presented slides are available here and the video recording here.

The document “Methodology for VNF Benchmarking Automation” was presented in the Benchmarking Methodology Working Group (BMWG). This draft in version -03 is in the scope of the BMWG charter, a partnership between University of Campinas and Paderborn University. In IETF104 the updates in the draft were presented by Manuel Peuster – Paderborn University [slides][video].

Lastly, we are grateful for the travel grant support received by Danny Lachos due to the best paper award at the V Workshop pre-IETF (V-WPIETF, 2018) presenting the paper “Multi-domain Orchestration leveraging the Application-Layer Traffic Optimization Protocol”. Likewise, for the 4th edition (IV-WPIETF, 2017), Raphael Vicente Rosa won the best paper award for the work titled “Taking Open vSwitch to the Gym: An Automated Benchmarking Approach”.
